ibook User Manual

Welcome to ibook (悅讀/悦读). This manual guides you through all features to set up your personal reading and text-to-speech sanctuary.

🚀 Quick Start

1. Add Your First Book

• Tap the + button at the top-right corner of the Bookshelf.
• The iOS document picker will open. Navigate to your TXT or EPUB files and select one.
• ibook will securely load the sandbox file in the background, extract the chapter tree, and automatically generate a custom gradient cover. Your book will appear on the shelf within seconds.

2. Start Reading

• Tap any book cover on the shelf to enter the Reader.
• By default, ibook opens the book exactly where you last left off.
• Tap the center of the screen to toggle the overlay controls (including chapter directory, font settings, TTS narration, and search).

3. Customize Typography & Page-Turns

• Fine-Tune Layout: In the reader settings overlay, tap the Aa button to scale font size (from 12 pt to 30 pt), adjust line spacing, paragraph spacing, and margins.
• Eye-Care Themes: Tap the palette icon to choose from 4 classic themes (warm Parchment, Green eye-care, Dark Mode, and simple Paper White).
• Physical Page-Turns: Toggle between 3 transition styles in the reader configuration:
  • Cover Flip: Realistic 3D turning effect with paper folds and shadow rendering.
  • Slide: Clean horizontal magazine-style slide animation.
  • Scroll: Continuous vertical scrolling.

🎧 TTS Narration & Highlighting

Start Narration

• Method 1: Simply double-tap any paragraph or sentence in the reader text to start/resume voice narration from that exact point.
• Method 2: Open the overlay controls, tap the headphone icon to launch the TTS player panel, select a voice, and tap Play.

Playback Controls

• Narration Speed: Drag the speed slider (from 0.5× to 2.0×) to adjust narration speed.
• Sleep Timer: Tap the moon icon to set a timer (15 / 30 / 60 minutes or custom). Playback will fade out smoothly when the timer expires.
• Mini Player Capsule: When exiting the reader while TTS is playing, a mini control capsule floats on the Bookshelf. Tap it to play/pause or jump back to the reader instantly.

TTS Highlight Colors

• Sentences are highlighted as they are read. Navigate to “Profile -> Speech Settings” to pick from 6 highlighters (Yellow, Orange, Mint, Sky Blue, Pink, Purple) or use the native ColorPicker.

📚 Shelf & Bookstore Management

Edit Shelf

• Long press any book cover to trigger Edit Mode.
• Tap the red minus badge (−) to delete a book from your shelf.
• Tap the background or tap Done to exit Edit Mode.

Duplicate Imports

• If you import a book with a title that already exists, ibook prompts you to either Overwrite (replace the old one) or Cancel (keep the existing copy).

Bookstore Usage

• Browse the carousel banners and recommended items in the Bookstore, tap a book to open the details view, and tap Read Now or Add to Shelf.

🔖 Bookmarks, Notes & Text Purification

Bookmark Gesture

• While reading, pull down the screen to add a bookmark instantly with haptic feedback, or tap the Bookmark icon in the overlay.

Reading Notes

• Long-press any text to open the annotation menu, then tap Add Note to write your thoughts. Bookmarks and notes can be viewed in the slide-out drawers.

Silent Text Purification

• The background pipeline automatically applies regular expressions to remove trash characters and advertisements, showing a non-blocking Toast notification when complete.

🔒 Private iCloud Cloud Synchronization

• Zero-Config iCloud Sync: Built natively with SwiftData and CloudKit. As long as your iOS devices are signed into the same Apple ID with iCloud enabled, your bookshelf, bookmarks, notes, and progress will sync automatically in seconds.
• Privacy & Security: All files and data are stored locally using SwiftData and synced via your personal private Apple iCloud. No third-party servers are involved, keeping your reading habits 100% private.
